The 20th Century was the century of aeronautics. Zenith has accompanied the world of aviation throughout its storied history. Zenith continue this well established heritage by introducing the Pilot Chronograph Big Date Special new for 2012. The design and functionality of the El Primero Pilot Chronograph evokes memories of the timepieces used by aviation pioneers.
In the world of aviation as well as horology visibility is key; the Pilot Chronograph comes with a matte black dial with contrasting white hands and hour markers, both with luminous coating to ensure enhanced readability. This new model also features a large date display shown through a double aperture at 6 o'clock. The chronograph counters at 3 & 9 o'clock and telemetric scale on the inner bezel are reminiscent of a planes cockpit. Above all, the large crown and pushpieces would have been essential for early aviators allowing them to make adjustments while wearing thick gloves.
The Pilot Chronograph Big Date Special uses a Swiss made El Primero 4010 automatic movement. The El Primero is exclusive to Zenith timepieces; each movement is made from start to finish in Le Locle, taking an average of 9 months to build with this version using 306 components and 31 jewels. The movement beats at 36,000 VpH making it one of the most accurate in the world, and has a minimum power reserve of 50 hours. The Stainless steel case has a diameter of 42mm, with box-shaped sapphire crystal on the front and a sapphire crystal caseback. It is secured by a brown calfskin leather strap which is lined with beige stitching, and a stainless steel pin buckle. Water resistant to 50 metres, comes with a 2 year manufacturer's warranty.
