The skilled artisans at Zenith have been crafting extraordinary timepieces in the Swiss canton of Neuchâtel since 1865. They are one of a very elite group of watchmakers who still produce all their movements in-house – when you buy a Zenith, you can be assured it was created from start to finish at their Manufacture.
In 1969, they released the highly lauded El Primero calibre. As the name hints, it was one of the first automatic chronograph movements. A true benchmark in watchmaking history, the El Primero movement beats at 36,000 VpH, making it the most accurate series-produced mechanical movement money can buy. Today, it can be found at the heart of every piece in the El Primero Collection.
It takes 331 components and 31 jewels to produce a Stratos Flyback Chronograph, resulting in an automatic movement with unparalleled accuracy, 50-hour power reserve and 100m water resistance. This limited-edition piece also features a unidirectional rotating bezel, glareproof sapphire crystal glass and an elegant black alligator leather strap.
A caliber as intricate as the El Primero deserves to be seen, which is why The Chronomaster Open features an open dial to display its magnificent internal components (it’s also worth noting that the Chronomaster – like all other watches in the El Primero collection – has a sapphire crystal transparent caseback, allowing an even greater view of the movement). This model also features a 42mm stainless steel case, silver sunray dial and a thoroughly nostalgic tachymeter scale.
Perhaps the pinnacle of the El Primero collection, however, is the Striking 10th, named for the in-house chronograph’s impressive 1/10th second accuracy (by comparison, most other chronographs only manage 1/8 second). In addition to exceptional precision, the Striking 10th also offers a black alligator leather strap lined with rubber protection, 100m water resistance and a 50-hour power reserve. To commemorate the inception of the El Primero movement, it’s a limited edition of 1969 pieces.
