There are many women who only want to wear a watch if it resembles a piece of jewellery. The idea being that the watch is more or less a decorative bracelet with a watch face attached. This mentality which many females harbour likely has to do with asserting a feminine look while still being able to read the time.
Historically speaking it was not even proper for a woman to wear a watch. This is of course ironic as the first wrist watch ever made was for a woman, and for a long time men saw wearing a watch on your wrist as being effeminate. The idea being that a woman out was supposed to be escorted by a man, whose responsibility it was to tell the time. Wearing a watch during that long-ago era was simply un-ladylike.
We’ve come a long way since then, but jewellery watches are still extremely popular. Cartier most likely takes a lot of credit for that. Inspired by many of the popular looks that made Cartier and other timepieces so famous, this is the Swiss Raymond Weil Jasmine. Seen here the Jasmine comes in a petite 29mm wide steel case with nicely integrated bracelet.
29mm wide is a classic size for a woman’s watch. Today the size is considered small, but I would prefer to refer to it as an “intently feminine dimension” suitable for women who want a more traditional look on their wrist. Though today, larger watches for women are very much in style.
The polished steel case and bezel are overlapped with the lugs, which is a unique look. The dial itself utilizes black Roman numerals against a silvered dial with blued steel leaf-style hands. A date window is attractively integrated into the dial with a gold-colored frame. Note how the crown is also gold-toned. This dial style is considered traditional, elegant, and most importantly legible. Over the dial is a strong sapphire crystal.
The bracelet uses polished and rounded links, and is tone-gold with steel and gold. The gold-color sections are applied with a PVD gold tone, and the link integration is tight offering few open gaps in the design. The security style clasp on the bracelet uses a double push-button system so that it does not accidently open if pulled.
Inside the Raymond Weil Jasmine 29mm watch is a Swiss Ronda quartz movement. The classic design is both conservative and versatile, making for a suitable daily wear watch. It helps that Raymond Weil watches are also rather fairly priced.
