The Ebel Heritage
Ebel was founded in 1911 by Eugéne Blum and his wife Alice Lévy in La Chaux-de-Fonds in the heart of the Swiss watchmaking district. By 1912 Ebel had launched their first wristwatch and by 1914 Ebel won a gold medal at the National Exhibition in Bern for their patented watches which featured a lever escapement and hidden time-setting. From 1939-45 Ebel served as the official supplier to the British Royal Air Force during their most critical and storied moment in history.
In the 1980s Ebel adopted the signature ‘The Architects of Time’ due to their longstanding links to the world of architecture and design. On their 75th anniversary Ebel renovated the Villa Turque, which had been built in 1917 by Le Corbusier – the father of modernist architecture. His influence can be seen in timepieces that unite classical elegance and sculptural design with fine workmanship and watchmaking mastery.
