Cartier: The Watchmaker

Cartier is the renowned French jeweller and watchmaker with a history of pioneering design and a drive for excellence. The first references to Cartier wristwatches date back to 1888. Late in the 19th century it was pocket and chatelaine watches that were most popular, but Louis Cartier saw a future in timepieces that could be worn on the wrist. The first Cartier wristwatch became the stepping stone to a long love affair and the creation of many new models. Names like Tank, Baignoire, Ballon Bleu, Santos and Calibre all refer to a shape, a winding crown, a moment in history or the brands first in-house movement. However different, Cartier watches are instantly recognisable at first glance thanks to their simple, yet stylish aesthetic.
