Baume & Mercier & Me

Corporations are often villainized for the part they play in polluting the environment, impoverishing children, or engaging in hazardous manufacturing techniques. Indeed, it is difficult to find a responsible corporate citizen. In the world of Hollywood, the press is alive with stories of shameless self promotion and indulgence. The ranks of the good and the caring are thus painfully thin.

Enter Genevan watchmaker Baume & Mercier, a company that has partnered with one of Hollywood’s true stars, Andy Garcia, in order to make a difference. They have teamed up to bring the world the Baume & Mercier & Me charity campaign. The premise behind the charity is simple: Andy Garcia will use his image and reputation to serve as an ambassador for Baume & Mercier for one year. In exchange for his services, Baume & Mercier will donate all of the royalties that would have been accrued by Mr. Garcia to charities of his choice in fields as varied as cancer research and child education.

Garcia will sport a Classima Executives XL MOAO 8688 steel watch for his campaign. The company notes the similarities behind Garcia and his watch: classic, personal, finely-tuned, and precise. This is demonstrated through his willingness to forgo income in order to serve as an ambassador. Additionally, he’s been married for twenty-seven years and has four children. Clearly, the award-winning actor’s qualities extend far beyond the silver screen; much is to be said about his character. Garcia is award-winning in real life.

The commonalities between Garcia and the Baume & Mercier brand make this year’s match an excellent one. The company already has a demonstrated record of excellence when it comes to both the human and environmental conditions, especially in the case of Arthur Baume during World War I. His support of the French hospital in Geneva not only earned him the respect of France’s President Poincaré, but laid the foundation and the corporate culture for Baume & Mercier’s current altruistic commitments.
